Dr. Yakavonis was born in Brockton, MA and received his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1974,
where he was inducted into the Sigma Xi research honors society for his work as a biology major and was an
All-Ivy League baseball player. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College, and his general
orthopedic residency training at Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Yakavonis has nearly 25 years of
clinical experience in orthopedic sports medicine, and specializes in knee and shoulder injuries.
In addition, he is an experienced joint replacement surgeon. He has served as the Head Team Orthopedic
Surgeon for the Providence College Friars for 25 years, and is the Chairman of the State of Rhode Island Worker’s
Compensation Medical Advisory Board.
